The Model 2053 has been designed to meet the requirements of the most demanding users: its outstanding characteristics and reliability make this instrument an optimum choice for critical applications such as fast cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance, transient analysis, etc.
Model 2053, along with the excellent reliability typical of all AMEL potentiostats for the past 30 years, offers also several new features making it very attractive for high-precision laboratory applications and well suited for computer-controlled experiments. Among the several features implemented, the Model 2053 can boast a 4 1/2-digit LCD display for clear and accurate reading of both current and potentials, a current-range switching by means of a key-switch array or with a fully AUTOMATIC function allowing the instrument to search and adjust itself for the optimum current range from 1µA to 1A in few milliseconds, a continuous control of the POSITIVE FEEDBACK allowing compensation for the iR drop signal. Both current and potential are permanently available as low-impedance replicas at the front-panel along with all digital I/O for current ranges and cell control, thus greatly simplifying the connection with a standard acquisition board to be fitted into a PC. Availability of specialized driving software for this application (ask for AMEL "SOFTASSIST" package) make the Model 2053 really simple to install and easy to use even by non-specialized operators. .
Operating Principle

The main amplifier A 1contains the power stages and provides to the output current, voltage swing, gain, short - circuit protection and the summing node for the various inputs and feedback The electrochemical cell is connected-r1 with the COUNTER electrode to the output of A 1and the WORKING electrode to the electrical common with a set of calibrated shunt resistors for precise current measurement. The differential amplifier A 2measures the voltage between the REFERENCE and WORKING and provides the negative feedback signal for potentiostatic mode operation. A 3is a unity-gain buffer amplifier for the current signal and for negative feedback in galvanostatic mode. The output of A 3is amplified 10 folds by A 4and the signal (eventually filtered out), is used to control the POSITIVE FEEDBACK amount when iR compensation is required. The reference source is connected to a multi-turn potentiometer for precise setting of the cell potential. The current signal at the output of A 3is monitored by the auto-ranging circuitry providing automatic range switching (when enabled). All signals (current, reference and standard source) can be monitored with the built-in DVM.
